Choosing the right type of garage door
It won’t come as a great surprise that your garage door plays an important role in the look of your entire home. A good garage door helps give your property what estate agents call ‘curb appeal’.
So when you’re thinking about buying a new garage door, it’s important to find something with the right look that’ll blend in with and enhance your property.
Enhancing older homes
If you have an old property, for instance, an ultra modern style of garage door is unlikely to suit the character of the place. Timber doors are the obvious choice as they look really good and will blend in beautifully with the style of your house. They will need more maintenance than steel or aluminium doors, but the aesthetics will make it worthwhile! If you’re worried about the practicalities of using wooden garage doors on a daily basis, you’ll be happy to know that wood is suitable for the ‘up and over’ style of door, and can therefore be controlled remotely.
On the other hand, doors made of GRP (a type of fibreglass) can be made to mimic timber, giving you the look of wooden doors, but with the advantages of being lighter, more robust and weatherproof.
Enhancing modern homes
If you have a modern or ultra-modern home, there are hundreds of styles, colours and materials of garage door you can choose from, whether it’s a classic roller door, sectional or ‘up and over’.
If you’re planning to use your garage as a workspace, you may want to include windows in order to let the light in. You can fit window panels in the narrow classic roller door slats, which means you can have as many or as few as you need in order to get your work done without having to open the door which could make a big difference during the winter months!
Choosing the perfect garage door
When you’re researching garage doors, whether online or in a showroom, it’s always a good idea to have a photo of your house with you, as it’ll give you a good feel of how each door style and colour might fit in with the rest of your home.
